Dear Sir or Madam...
Applying for jobs isn’t much fun, and reading the applications can be even less so.
The problem is that so much of the process is just going through the motions: filling in forms, firing off a CV, rehashing the cover letter... it’s all so predictable. Wouldn’t it be better if you just, you know, said how you really feel?
In a recent recruitment drive, we invited applicants to do just that – to send no CV or cover letter. Instead, we asked for an application that they felt matched the spirit and the tone of the advert. Simply put, we asked them to be themselves in whatever form they liked.
True, many people were unable to think beyond the norm and just sent the usual materials regardless. Had they been responding to a client brief, they would have lost the job.
Triffid is all about matching the message to the audience, which means listening to what’s required and delivering it in a way that’s most effective. That’s why when we send out our acceptance (or rejection) letters we get right to the point:
“You’ve got the job.”
