Making climate change our business
This new year we’ve decided to ditch our usual (and swiftly broken) resolutions for one that we’re determined to keep: to be kinder to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
To help us on our way, we’ve joined the stampede to sign up to 10:10, which is a national drive to cut our carbon emissions by 10% by the end of the year. All across the country, businesses, individuals, groups, schools, colleges and other organisations will be united in turning down the heating, switching off lights and walking to work to help to secure our planet’s future. But to ensure we hit the big one zero target, we’ve had to put a few more changes than that in place.
So, for starters, we’re going to introduce meat-free Mondays. What’s that got to do with the environment? A lot actually! UN figures show that meat production puts more greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere than transport. But travel is still one of the biggest causes of pollution so we’ll be doing it less frequently. Conference calls will replace train and plane journeys and, when we’ve no other choice but to travel, we’ll try to combine our trips so we get more done and see more people while we’re there. Everyone in the team will also be pledging to give up one carbon heavy action – for me, it’s going to be make do and mend rather than spend, spend, spend.
We'll be keeping you updated with our progress in the coming months.
Nicola
